The famous red sole of the Christian Louboutin shoe can now be on your fingertips. After three years of perfecting a nail polish, Mr Louboutin released it with huge fanfare…at the Crazy Horse in Paris. A famous cabaret known for its nude shows.
A strange place to show off a new nail polish? Not for Christian Louboutin.
“This was simply me going back to my roots. Showgirls were the first people I wanted to design shoes for and the red sole originated from a bottle of red nail varnish,” he told British Vogue.
After the elaborate show, the polish was revealed.
“Rouge Louboutin” is the exact color of the bottom of his iconic red sole shoes.
Louboutin designed the bottle to mimic the ink well. It’s a French made glass bottle with a towering black cap. The cap is an homage to the stiletto on an imposing pair of shoes, the Ballerina Ultima, Louboutin made for a photography collection by David Lynch in 2007. The heel was a teetering 8 inches and so is the bottle cap. Daring and slightly dangerous, no? For a shoe and a nail polish.
The collection includes 30 additional colors in Nudes, Noirs and Pop.
The polish will be sold alongside a capsule collection of shoes that pairs with the polish. Polishes can be purchased at Sephora, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf’s and Nordstrom.
But you may want to settle on the one color you can’t live without. At $50 a bottle it’s definitely an investment. Louboutin wanted it to be an objet d’art. For $50 you may want to frame the bottle once you’ve used it all.
You can paint your fingertips with the Rouge Louboutin now and try the rest of the shades when they’re released August 30.
