Fashion collaborations happen all the time. But they make sense. And they work. Whenever a designer partners with Target their items fly off the shelves. Of course it seems most of them end up on eBay, but that’s a whole different blog post.

The newest collaboration just doesn’t seem like a good fit. Lord & Taylor is teaming up with Wal-Mart to offer a flagship store on Walmart.com.

Lord & Taylor wants to drive more online shoppers to their website and Wal-Mart wants to create a “premium fashion destination on Walmart.com” according to Denise Incandera, the Head of Fashion for Walmart’s e-commerce in the US.
Considering the average cost of a sweater on L&T’s website is significantly higher than Wal-Mart’s rock bottom prices, how do you combine the two?

Lord & Taylor’s President says this partnership is a chance to “create tremendous growth for us…and this relationship will catapult forward Lord and Taylor’s digital footprint and expand our reach.”
Wal-Mart has some stiff competition online. Well, everyone does. Amazon has taken over the online shopping world with a profit of about $92 million a year and rising,

But we’ll have to wait to see if this online marriage is a success or if a nasty divorce is on the horizon. The Lord & Taylor flagship opens on Walmart.com in the Spring of 2018. Hope they signed a prenup.
