Shopping for a Cause: Women helping Women

What’s better than picking out a fantastic new outfit at your favorite store? How about paying it forward at the same time?

Dress for Success Boston and Talbot’s in Hingham, Massachusetts teamed up to do just that. On Thursday, March 5, 10% of all sales went to Dress for Success. While shoppers planned their new outfits, they just helped underprivileged women who need new clothes to get back on their feet and back into the workforce.

Those who couldn’t make the event were invited to donate work appropriate attire. It was a chance to give confidence and style. Always a winning look.

Kim Todd, Executive Director of Dress for Success Boston, was thrilled to work with Talbots on this project.

“The two organizations align very well together, as Talbot’s clothing is perfect for women who want to project a classy, professional image.”

This event wasn’t exclusive to just Hingham. It was held at 24 stores around the country. Todd says, “Customers could drop off clothing donations for Dress for Success affiliates, make a monetary contribution and a percentage of sales was donated back to Dress for Success.”

And to everyone that helped out that day, or helps with a donation, Kim Todd would like to say, Thank You.

“I would like to tell them that every donation, whether it be clothing, volunteer time, or a financial donation, makes a huge difference.  We are only able to do this work because so many people support the organization.”

And Todd adds, “If a person is interested in volunteering, they just need to contact us. There are many ways to help!”

They say, Clothes Make the Man. But clearly, they haven’t met the women who have benefitted from Dress for Success. If they had, that quote would read: Clothes Make the WOMAN.

Great blog for a great cause. I can only imagine how the women feel when they benefit from this inspiring organization.
